Free Electricity Periods and Solar Charging

Australia, Brisbane

  • Single Phase
  • Solar
  • House Batteries
  • BYD Atto 3
  • Looking at installing an E2 Core

On the Globird Zero hero plan, with a free 3 hour period from 11am - 2pm

Is it possible to setup a charge schedule as per the following:

  • 11am - 2pm: Charge at max rate (7kw) subject to overall load management (max of 13kw)
  • Otherwise charge off excess solar

Thanks - Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,

Thanks for getting in touch. Yes absolutely, through scheduling in our Evnex App you can set up your charging schedule exactly as you’ve outlined in your post. An E2-Core is a great option for your solar setup, though it may be best to give our sales team a call just to make sure it exactly meets your requirements in terms of scope for your property. Have a great day!

Thanks!

nb. I’ve seen a few comments online that the evnex needs at least 1.6kw solar surplus to effectively divert, is that the case?

You’re welcome.

The default setting for solar diversion to kick in is 1.5kW of available export (1.9kW if you have a battery). However, you can adjust this value in our Evnex App as well, though it’s important to note that most vehicles won’t take a charge of less than 1.4kW (certainly not less than 1kW) so that is why the default is about the value it is.

Makes sense, thanks. I have average Solar (6.4kw) + massive battery (50kWh), so the time that I’d be getting 1.5kwh surplus is pretty minimal over the year, probably not worthwhile.

The E2 Flex supports Load Management doesn’t it?

I just wish it had a cable longer than 5M, that’s stretching it for my location :worried:

Yes the E2 Flex does support Load Management and the tethered cable is 5m long. The unit that has the 8m long cable is the E2 Plus which also comes with an internal 4G SIM for extra connectivity if the charger may be located further away from your WiFi for instance.

As mentioned you can adjust the minimum export value but you’d just need to check with your vehicle manufacturer what the minimum charge it can receive would be.

Surprisingly low, 1.4kw for the Atto 3
