My E2 series Charger is housed in a Deta Ev Charger Enclosure on an outside wall. I keep getting this message of Limited by Charger Temperature. Should I be concerned as it is only spring in Aus.
Mate outside in Aus in summer is going to hot. Unless the cover has an active cooling system or fan it might even make it hotter.
EDIT: I just googled that enclosure. A big black metal box? It’s going to bake.
I’ve been seeing this message recently for my E7, which is mounted on the inner wall of my garage. Ambient temperatures were mid 20s to 30 at the time. Maybe a software glitch?
Hoping for an opinion from evnex. Glad to here it is not just a isolated issue.
Where are you based. Is your charger very well free from any heat effects?
I’m in Melbourne. Charger is mounted on a brick wall with a thick piece of timber to give it some insulation from the wall, which gets sun in the morning.
Re your charger enclosure, check this part of the E2 Installer Manual:
I see that Deta claims great ventilation, but maybe it isn’t so good.
Something is definately wrong with one of the latest firmware updates. My charger inside of the garage is throttling even with 15c ambient temp around it. Support pretty much ignoring the issue
Hi All,
Thanks for reaching out — we understand it can be surprising to see a “Limited by Charger Temperature” message, especially in mild weather. Here’s what’s happening:
Why this occurs
All AC chargers — not just Evnex units — include thermal derating to protect internal components and ensure long-term reliability. This behaviour depends on several factors, including:
-
Charger location
-
Airflow and ventilation
-
External and surface temperatures
-
Sunlight on the charger
-
Thermal mass of the mounting surface (e.g., brick walls that retain heat)
Because of this, the message is informational, not a sign of a fault or damage. It simply means the charger is currently reducing output to preserve hardware, and the current behaviour is safe.
What we’re doing:
Our software and hardware teams have reviewed 250,000+ charging sessions and are actively working on a firmware update that should:
-
Reduce unnecessary throttling,
-
Improve performance in warmer months.
We appreciate your patience.
