with the new rebates coming into effect soon in Australia, I am sure I’m not the only Evnex (E2) homeowner with existing solar system that is looking to add a battery to our home.
I have seen some threads on here where people have added an Evnex AFTER they had a battery (usually power wall) already, but I’m interested in the other way around and also with other brands - eg. FranklinWH - that offer a similar DC coupled setup (that can just tie into my existing system with minimal change)
Are there any particular brands/types of batteries to avoid? Will they all ‘play nice’ with the existing E2 that I already have installed (and have the excess charging setup/monitoring with the CT clamp?)

Thanks for getting in touch.
There shouldn’t be any issues adding a solar battery after the charger, in saying that, it is a good idea to speak with the solar battery installer and make clear about your expectations in relation to solar battery’s supply, if you want it to monitor and supply to the house + charger or just the house (charger will still do solar diversion during the day and charge from the grid at night time).
Most drivers don’t want the charger to ever take current from the solar battery, for this use case we would recommend to leave the charger’s supply coming directly from the main supply switch and before the solar battery gateway.
Also, if the solar battery has its own CT, it would need to be clamped on the load side of the main supply switch and not monitoring the supply to the charger’s RCBO, only the house. This will depend on battery model and brand.

thank you! This is exactly the information I was looking for and very useful to provide to the battery installer.
