Amber Integration

Hi,
Is there any possibility of integrating live pricing from Amber (amber.com.au) into the Evnex app? Amber uses wholesale pricing from AEMO which changes every half hour. Our grid is pretty dirty in VIC and it would be great to be able to take a charge when the renewables are highest and the cost is the lowest.

Hi Joel.

We’re starting down the path of looking at retailer integrations and certainly Amber would be one of the most impactful ones to include. At this stage we’re not far enough advanced for me to be able to promise anything or give a timeline, but it is being looked at.

Regards,

Tom

+1 for this amber integration request or integration with Catch Power devices, which already supports amber and EV charge control.

Any updates to Amber integration?

Good timing! We’re scheduled to start work on it in April. There might be a long tail of testing and bug fixing so we are likely still a few months from release, but it is coming.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I recently got an Evnex charger installed and loving it here in VIC. Just wondering if there’s any updates you can give for Amber integration. I’m very excited for this feature. Cheers.

Hi Rob.

Beta testing has started - if you’d like to be part of the trial then please message me directly with your email address and we can get you enrolled!

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Sounds great! I’ve thrown you a dm. Cheers!

Hi, how does this integration work? Does it mean I could set the charger to solar bypass, or when the grid prices fall below a certain amount and it will charge when I have excess solar or the prices drop?

At the moment we’re trialling an implementation so things could change. I’d rather not explain it in detail here in case things do change and then we confuse someone reading this in future! It does involve price thresholds, and using those to determine whether to charge at full speed, charge under solar diversion, or not charge at all.

If you’re interested in being included in the trial I can get you enrolled if you send me a message with your email address?

Tom

Thank you. I’m not with Amber yet, but am getting a home battery installed sometime in July so may be switching over then possibly. So I might be jumping the gun a little as I’m guessing it wouldn’t work for me now, but happy to be part of the trial whenever it makes sense to do so?

Sounds good! We may well have a full release by then but I’ll comment here if that has happened.

For anyone following this thread, the full release happened today.

If you download the latest version of the app (3.23.4) then on the “Charging Settings” page at the bottom there is an option to connect your account to your Amber price feed. Hopefully the instructions and settings are fairly straightforward, but if not then feel free to ask questions here!

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom, I have tried to connect our 2 x Evnex chargers 1 x e2 and 1 X22 to Amber but the Evnex app is not accepting the Amber API. Can you please confirm if there are extra steps required to link the chargers to Amber? Thanks Ben

Hi Ben,
Sorry to hear that, Once you have generated a token through Amber and give it a name it should allow it to be accepted In the Evnex App, If possible are you able to send an email Support@evnex.com with the serial number of one of the units or the location details and I can get our software team to take a look at see what could potential gone wrong, If you have any screenshots of error codes could you attach these too?

Thanks I’ll email through the serial numbers for both chargers so you can see if any reason for them not to work. Cheers Ben

Hi everyone!

If you’re working on integrating Amber into your Evnex app and running into issues, we’re here to help you troubleshoot.

Please reach out to the Evnex Technical Support Team and include both your charger’s serial number and the NMI number for the location where the charger has been installed.

You can find your NMI number at the top of your power bill on either the first or second page.

We’ll take a look at your account to ensure your NMI Number is on file with your Evnex charger and assist you from there.

Hi All, In the docs it says in the future you’ll be looking to add “curtailment state” information from the API from Amber. I am curious if you have a timeline for this functionality?

Hi Rhyno,

Great follow up!

I’ve flagged this with our Product Team for follow up with Amber, however, it looks like this will have to wait on when Amber starts publishing this information for us to be able to update our current Amber Integration.

We don’t currently have any set timelines to report until then but there should be some official releases when this is made available in the future.
