Charger Schedule Disappeared on App Main Menu

Hi,

I noticed that the Charging Schedule option is no longer available in the app’s main menu. Was it removed? It was really convenient, as I adjust my charging session duration almost every time I charge my car based on my mileage. Having to navigate through Charging Settings each time is a bit cumbersome.

I drive a 2018 Nissan Leaf, which doesn’t allow me to stop charging at 80%, so I rely on the app for that. Would it be possible to add a “Favorite” or shortcut option to quickly access the Charging Schedule from the main menu? That would make things much easier.

Thanks!

The charging schedule is now part of the Charging Settings menu, as it has become more explicitly linked with the electricity tariff.

The vast majority of schedules drivers set follow their tariff in some way - such as charging only during free or cheap power, or using solar during high prices and grid during low prices. So we’ve made it easier for drivers to keep those things in sync without having to change in multiple places (pricing and schedule).

I can see that this has made it slightly more difficult in your case. If you have a cheap “Night” power period and you want to spend the first part of it charging and the second part not, then the trick would be to split it into two with the first part having the “Night” cost and a behaviour of “Charge”, and the second a “Night” cost and a behaviour of “Don’t Charge”. I think it would look a bit like this:

You can then alter the length of the first period by tapping on it. I’m sorry that it’s not quite as straightforward as it used to be.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom

Currently on Android the Charging Settings page is blank for me. It’s this a beta issue, Android 15 issue, or something else? Have tried reinstalling the app.

Cheers
Stu

It shouldn’t be blank - I’d recommend calling or emailing our support team and they can investigate. It’s likely something that didn’t migrate properly in our database when we switched to the new scheduling, so let them know your charger serial number and they can look it up.

Thanks Tom

Done, and done! One of the easiest and quickest support calls I’ve ever made.

Thanks again

This new scheduling page is definitely not as easy as the previous version of the app. What showed on the Charging Schedule page was different to the times I had set for a period and I had to delete them and start again several times.

Also when a charging schedule was set, the Main page would show the time that charging would start e.g. “Waiting for Schedule - charging will start at 9.00pm”, now it just shows “Waiting for Schedule - Charging will start when scheduled”.

This is not an improvement so the time spent developing this latest version seems to be a waste of time and money. Why do you not canvas your app users before you make sweeping changes?

Hi Laurence.

Thanks for your feedback. The ability to create more complex schedules was by far the most requested capability in all of our customer research, but we’re aware that some of the trade-offs made have reduced the simplicity compared to the previous behaviour and will look to address those in future iterations. Bringing back a better summary on the main page will be one of the first changes.

I’m sorry that you found yourself having to create a schedule multiple times - are you able to narrow down exactly what went wrong so that we can look at fixing it?

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

It’s nice having a more advanced scheduling feature, but it can get a bit confusing at times. Maybe a good workaround would be to let users mark certain settings as “Favourites” so they show up as shortcuts or in a dedicated list on the main menu. Sort of like how some digital camera or guitar effects setups let you customize things to make them easier to access.

Keen to hear what you reckon!

Also when a charging schedule was set, the Main page would show the time that charging would start e.g. “Waiting for Schedule - charging will start at 9.00pm”, now it just shows “Waiting for Schedule - Charging will start when scheduled”.

I agree with this sentiment, it should show the next charging schedule

Thanks for your reply Tom.

I’ll try and capture some screenshots to explain what I’m seeing.

Laurence

Hi all,
Just wanted to share my 2 cents. I was disappointed at first when I saw the new interface as it was definitely more complicated than the previous setup. And I can imagine this new Advanced Scheduling not being everyone’s cup of tea.

For my use case I was occasionally turning off the scheduling so the charger would just charge and other times I was enabling the scheduling to make use of night rate power.

I do have solar (and a battery) but I wasnt using the solar diversion as I wanted to get used to the new system first and a new power supplier. Yesterday after seeing the notes from Tom I set to and reconfigured my power tariff (after changing supplier) and got solar diversion setup.

It did take quite a while to set up, day by day, but I really appreciate the flexibility that it now provides. I can take advantage of peak feed in tariffs by not charging even on solar diversion during those times. The solar diversion settings with battery mean I can make sure I maximise my export when it makes sense for me.

I think ultimately these new features are awesome for those of us that want granular control but might be a bit over the top for those who don’t.

I wonder if this could be resolved with a simple toggle, Standard Scheduling vs Advanced or something?

Ultimately the new features and the improvements on the Solar Diversion for batteries mean that I don’t need to go down the Home Assistant route anymore.

What about something like this for a simpler view?

That gets my vote Tom.

That’s great to hear Lawrence - we released it yesterday! If you check that your app has updated to version 3.20 then that’s what you will get for a simple on / off type of schedule. To do that tap the menu in the top left and look at the bottom of the Help page to see which version you’re on.

There are also some other improvements to help find the scheduling like a subheading on the main menu, better descriptions in the main “status widget” and using text instead of icons to show clarity around what you are editing. Finally the help menu has links to some videos on how to use it.

I hope that all helps make it more straightforward for anyone that doesn’t need the full complexity (though of course that is still available too if you pick one of the “Advanced” schedule types).

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for this update, it is much better. I had missed a couple of (night) charging sessions because of misconfigured schedules (it was also confusing). I think the Simple scheduling mode will solve this.
Thanks again to your team!

Best regards,
Rodel

Just updated the app and yes I like that much better! Simple mode works for me 90% of the time, the rest of the time I just use the Charge Now option in the app.

Laurence

Glad you like it!
