Firstly can I say how much I LOVE my Evnex E2 charger – it is so satisfying to buy a piece of technology that consistently works as well as this device does, and have a company behind it that is so responsive to user feedback. As someone who worked as a technology journalist for well over a decade, I got used to the majority of tech products not really delivering on their promise, whereas the Evnex E2 really just works, and has a great app (the charging schedules feature is now fantastically configurable!)
That said, I do have one ongoing problem with it, which is that rain seems to sometimes trigger the capacitive button on the front of it causing ‘charge now’ to activate. The problem with this is I’m on an electricity plan that has relatively high rates during the day to compensate for super low rates overnight. That means a car charge during the day costs me more than 3X the cost overnight, so this small bug does have financial consequences!
It’s also quite easy to test this - spray from a garden hose can reproduce the problem.
An easy fix would be to give the user the option to lock off the capacitive button via the app. I generally only use the app anyway.
Another option would be a rain cover hood of some sort which would also be fine though I imagine allowances would need to be made for heat ventilation? Not sure what the thermal dissipation requirements of the charger are.

Hi Dan,
Thank you very much for your feedback, really appreciate it.
Thanks for raising this with us, while we haven’t developed the ability to toggle the physical button ON/OFF yet, our support team can disable the physical button operation for you if you wish. You will still be able to send the charge now via the app but nothing will happen if you touch (or rain) the physical button.
If this is something you are interested in, please email support@evnex.com with your request and can we can easily change this for you.
I will pass this feature request to our software team so they can look into it for future app updates.
To re-enable the physical button you would need to get in touch with us again, but we are very responsive and can easily change this for you until a more user friendly way is available.
Thanks again for your feedback and time. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hey, interested in this as my E2 plus is outside as well and likely to get rained on, would toggling the availability stop this? I use the home assistant integration.
Hi there,
You could indeed toggle the availability and disable the unit, which would stop the Charge Now button press from activating a charge, as the availability feature disables everything until it is enabled again via the app.
Sweet, fortunately even with the recent heavy rain, this hasn’t been a problem, at least not yet, must be sheltered enough
